2014 Bridesmaid Trends - NYC Market

Bridesmaid Trends from NYC Market 2014

In addition to the fabulous new bridal trends we spotted on the runway in New York City, we also witnessed several fun fashions working their way into the 2014 bridesmaid market. Many of our favorite wedding dress trends are now being incorporated into dress designs for the maids. These fashion forward options are quickly changing the bad rap bridesmaid dresses have gotten for several years. Say farewell to the ‘ugly bridesmaid dress’ stereotype and hello to these fun, flirty, and chic options for your girls!

Trendy Tulle
When I think about wedding dresses, one word in particular comes to mind: TULLE! Whether you love the princess-y feel of the fabric or you think it resembles a frosted cupcake, bridal tulle is here to stay…at least for this season. Designers like Amsale and Jenny Yoo have incorporated tulle into their bridesmaid lines. The light weight and breathable fabric takes on a whole new look when sampled in colors other than white!

Fit & Flares
Fit & Flare silhouettes are making their debut in the bridesmaid department this season. This flirty fit tends to be a favorite style for brides, allowing them to show off their figure! Amsale came out with a few fit & flare options in their new tulle fabric for bridesmaids.

Lots of Lace
If you’re a 2014 bride on the hunt for your gown and aren't very fond of lace, you’re out of luck! Just kidding… well, kind of. If you look back at pictures from your mother's wedding, or even your grandma's gown, there’s a pretty good chance the dress had some kind of lace in the design. It has gone in and out of style for many years, but lace is definitely a prevalent trend in the 2014 bridal AND bridesmaid season. LulaKate, Lynn Lugo, Dessy, Amsale, Jenny Yoo, and pretty much every other bridesmaid line out there is using some kind of lace in a variety of colors for their bridesmaid collection.

Illusion Neckline Craze
The illusion neckline provides the same bare look of a strapless gown but adds a little more coverage and support. This dainty and flattering neckline provides subtle sexiness for the fashion forward bride. Illusion necklines have been a huge hit on the bridal runways for a couple years now, and now they're becoming increasingly popular for bridesmaid styles.

A Touch of Sparkle
For the girly-girls out there who love all-things-sparkly, you will adore this fun new trend happening in bridesmaid dresses – embellished belts! Jenny Yoo added a few new bridesmaid belts to their collection this season. This is a great idea if you want to compliment maid's attire to complement the sparkle from the bride’s gown. Glam accessories are positively in this season and very fitting for a classic black-tie wedding.

One thing is for certain, wedding fashions change dramatically with every decade, so it’s no surprise the bridesmaid trends follow suit. All fashions tend to recycle in and out of style, with only the most popular styles lasting multiples seasons. We are excited to see how our Kentucky brides like the new fashions that are coming soon to our boutique. Be on the look out for these chic style options, fun fabrics, and pretty colors!
You can expect these fabulous Spring 2014 styles to arrive at Twirl towards the beginning of February. Call us for any questions about the new dresses or to set up your private appointment (859) 309-2493.

Iconic Inspiration

Iconic Inspiration

Who is your favorite fashion icon from the past?  Do you have style similar to Audrey Hepburn, classy and sophisticated, or are you more of a glamorous and daring Marilyn Monroe? We have picked a number of gowns here at Twirl that resemble some of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time - they are timelessly beautiful!!

Style Icon: Audrey Hepburn

If your style resembles Audrey, you are classy and traditional. You tend to have expensive taste and have never left the house without a string of pearls. Elegant simplicity is the perfect way to describe Audrey's dress in the image below.

Style Icon: Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth’s style was all about turning simple into sexy and elegance into excess. If you have style like hers, you are completely fearless when it comes to accessorizing and elaborate details are your trademark. Below is a picture of Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding.  She wore a silk satin, oyster shell-colored gown embellished with pearls and beads. (PS - It had a fifteen-yard satin train!)

Style Icon: Marilyn Monroe

If your style is similar to Marilyn's, you are fun, flirtatious, and bold.  Your walk down the isle will feel more like a walk down the red carpet in this type of gown! We found a couple dresses here at Twirl that reminded us of her most famous white halter neck dress.

Style Icon: Grace Kelly & Kate Middleton

Two of the most memorable gowns of all time were worn by these iconic women. Both Grace Kelly & Kate Middleton had their sleeves and shoulders covered with lace that ended in a tight bodice and then flowed into a full skirt with a long train. Also, both brides wore intricately embroidered veils. Kate's dress is very similar to Kelly's, but with a modern twist.

Style Icon: Jackie Onassis

If you consider your style to be similar Jackie’s, you are graceful and sophisticated. Her voluminous ivory silk taffeta gown with a portrait neckline and wide, embellished skirt emphasized her small waist. This super-romantic bridal ensemble is definitely one to remember.
