A Bridal Appointment at Twirl Boutique

What To Expect & How To Prepare!
Let’s be honest, he had barely gotten up off his knee and placed that beautiful bling on your finger before the wedding bells started ringing in your head and visions of white gowns began flashing before your eyes! Your very own fairytale has begun to unfold as you search for the dress of your dreams!
Here at Twirl, we want to make this experience relaxing, memorable, and everything you’ve ever imagined – We have prepared a list of tips & other suggestions to keep in mind before arriving at your appointment.

1. Plan Ahead

Call ahead to book a private appointment so we can ensure you receive the individual attention you deserve while searching for “the one”! Appointments last one hour, so be sure to arrive with plenty of time to avoid feeling rushed. Keep in mind, our bridal gowns are not made until they are ordered – delivery times range from 4-6 months, which is why it is important to start your search early! However, if you are pressed for time, most of our designers offer a rush delivery (for an additional fee) and we also have some beautiful off-the-rack gowns.

2. Do Your Research

Search the Internet and flip through bridal magazines to get an idea of what you’re looking for. Pictures help give us an idea of the style & feel you’re going for (We know you’ve spent plenty of hours pinning away, so feel free to share your Pinterest boards with us!)

3. Cha-Ching

Figure out how much you want to spend, and be prepared to share this with us before we start pulling gowns. This way you won’t lose your heart to a dress that is out of your price range.

4. Limit Your Entourage

Bring loved ones whose style you admire & advice you appreciate. For the best experience, bring 1-3 people – our bridal suite has limited space, PLUS having too many opinions can be overwhelming and confusing (remember this scene?!)

5. Dress Up Time!

In your own personal fitting suite, your bridal consultant will assist you in trying on the gowns you’ve selected.
(TIP: a strapless bra is helpful!)
Next, you will be escorted into the room across the hall where your entourage can ooh & ahh (or shed a few tears) at the lovely gown you’re modeling.
When trying on the selected gowns, we will ask what you like about certain dresses, as well as what you don’t like. This allows your consultant to narrow down the selection and focus your time together on trying on dresses that match your needs.

6. Accessorizing

Your consultant will help accessorize the gown depending on your own personal style and preferences. We have a beautiful selection of bridal belts, veils, headpieces, and other accessories that will add the finishing touches to your dress.

6. Yes To The Dress!

When you have found your dream wedding dress, that ultimate gown that must be yours for your wedding day – we will get you measured up to decide on the perfect size to order! We will place the order with the designer and give you an estimated time frame on when you should expect to receive your gown!

We want to do everything we can to help you find the most meaningful gown you will ever wear! Whether you are looking for classical, glamorous, traditional or sophisticated – we have it all and will help you find your perfect gown : )

We would love to have you as one of our brides!

XOXO

Dress of the Week!

Dress of the Week!

The Jenny Yoo "Blake" Dress features a ruched sweetheart neckline with wide ruced straps.  A layer of soft tulle attached to the lining's hem creates a slight A-line skirt that hits above the knee.  Also, a fun added bonus is that the straps can be removed for a strapless look!  We love the "wear it two ways" styled dresses!  This dressed is pictured in "Blush" but can also come in various other colors!

Bridesmaid Appointment Tip

I love it when bridal parties come in to shop for bridesmaid dresses and someone remembers to bring a camera.  Looking at bridesmaid dress styles on the Internet is helpful, but seeing a snapshot of yourself or your bridal party in dresses you're interested in is even better.   It's one thing to see a model in a dress that has been altered to look just right for a photo shoot - seeing how a dress falls on a real person gives brides a much better idea of the true look of the dress.

A couple hints when bringing your camera:
-Remember that taking snapshots is just helping you to get an idea on the cut of the bridesmaid dresses you like.  It doesn't mean every single girl needs to try on the dress.  Whether you're shopping at Twirl Lexington or at another bridal boutique, sales consultants can help you determine dress silhouettes that look best on certain body types.

-Tell your bridesmaids to bring a strapless bra and heels.  Some bridal stores provide heels in the fitting room, so it's good ask when you make your appointment.

-Also remember that not every store allows photos, we at Twirl don't have a problem with it, but many places do not allow photos, so respect their wishes.

Happy Shopping!

Double-Duty Dresses

Do you feel like Katherine Heigl in 27 dresses, with a closet full of old bridesmaid dresses you wouldn't be caught dead in (except as a Halloween costume)?  Never fear - Twirl is here!

Our designers are simply getting better and better about introducing "double-duty" dresses - the kind you actually can wear to another event.  With our oh-so-lovely economy, that's great news!

I have several dresses in our closets that we wear to other events, or even to work... without looking like we're on our way to a wedding the same day.  Check out a few of the styles at Twirl Lexington right now that would be perfect to wear to another wedding, a day at Keeneland or to a cocktail party!

The old cliche "you can cut it off and wear it again" does not apply to some dresses, but one of our former Twirl brides just sent us a picture on the Twirl Lexington Facebook page that had us super excited!  She took the long bridesmaid dress that her sister wore in her wedding and had it hemmed to make an uber-fabulous cocktail dress!  See the before and after shot below!  Many thanks to Belinda at The Needle's Eye for bringing new life to this bridesmaid dress for Jennifer.

So, brides, it is possible to find a dress that your girls can wear again...just come to Twirl!

White Bridesmaid Dresses

So, over the past month I have had multiple brides come to me with the idea that they are going to have their bridesmaids in white  just like them. At first I was a little taken back by it... but the more I hear the bride's vision, the more the idea starts to grow on me. Below is a picture of a bridal party that was all allowed to choose their own, white dress. The designer of choice: THREAD.

After hundreds of years of weddings, I think we can agree that it has ALL been done! There is no color scheme that hasn't been tested. No crazy dress that hasn't been worn. No venue that hasn't already been chosen. It's even hard to come up with a first song that has never been danced to.

So I think the fact that it has all been done before is causing brides to strive even more to bring out their creative side. The couple brides that have the vision of an all white wedding have said to me, "I don't know anyone that has ever done it before". And aside from the fact that I currently have 3 brides all with that idea... they are right. It is not common to have the bridesmaids in WHITE!!!!

Aside from being different, it also gives off a very clean, crisp look. In the picture below, they even kept the theme going with the flowers. Again, not as common, but it looks great. And having the guys not wear the traditional tux... also stepping outside the box.

.

You have to admit, this wedding party is looking good. They chose dresses from Jim Hjelm, Melissa Sweet and Alvina Valenta.

I'm not going to lie... when it comes time for my wedding, I may not rule this idea out! I would however, choose some fabulously bright colored, fun shoes for the girls to wear and have the flowers match. I mean, I have to at least stand out a little on my big day!

The more I see it, the more it is growing on me! ;)

Happy Wedding Planning!

Tuesdays with Ty - Last week as a single lady!

This time next week I will by lying on the beach with a banana daiquiri in my hand and my HUSBAND by my side!  I cannot believe this is the last time I am writing Tuesdays with Ty before the wedding.  Time has certainly flown by and I am so excited for this weekend!  I have enjoyed sharing my journey with everyone.  Don't worry...I'll be back to update you with photos and wedding day do's and don'ts after we get back from the honeymoon:)   I thought it would be fun to re-cap my fun wedding week attire with everyone!  Brandon keeps asking just how many dresses I will wear because I keep parading out with more for him to critique.  My excuse is that I will only get to be the BRIDE once and I want to make the most of it.

Beginning on Thursday I plan to start wearing white...because I can.  We do not have any particular event on Thursday other than set up for the rehearsal dinner, but I plan to wear a super cute white sun dress my mom found for me in California!

Friday I will have 2 wardrobe changes.  At 11:30 that morning I will be surrounded by all the special ladies that are a part of the wedding for my bridesmaid luncheon at Circa 1840 in my hometown, Georgetown.  For the occasion I will wear an ivory dress by Chloe & Reese sold at Twirl.  Later that day, I will change for our rehearsal and dinner.  Since we are doing a Fiesta theme, my dress is not white...but the festive Shiloh dress in fuchsia and ice blossom print by Thread, also sold at Twirl!!

Rehearsal Dinner Dress by Thread

Now, for the wedding day!  3 wardrobe changes total!  The time before the wedding will be spent at ChaCha Salon and brunch at Josie's.  Every person that has been in a wedding before knows that you need to wear something that doesn't go over your head when you are changing.  So, while in Nashville on my bachelorette party I found the sweetest white strapless dress that is comfy and perfect for the wedding day.On to the wedding attire!  As you may remember, I am wearing my mother's gown (with new life and style breathed into it).  I am giving you a sneak preview of mom in the original 1976 gown.  Of course,  I cannot post what it looks like now until after the wedding, but I love it and it is so special.

For my final wardrobe change of the evening, I will change into a fun short, ivory reception dress by Lynn Lugo (also available at Twirl) after we cut the cake and do our first dance.  I am seriously obsessed with this dress!

On Sunday morning we leave bright and early for the honeymoon and again, I plan to wear white!  Well this one is white and black and has fun flowers at the bottom, but still!  I will be Mexico ready when I get on the plane!Happy Planning!

Organized Brides

Does being more organized make planning your wedding easier when it comes to bridesmaid dresses? I really think this can be answered both yes and no.

The answer would be yes for the obvious reasons. I love when a bride walks into Twirl with a giant binder and begins flipping though the tabs to show me the different aspects of her wedding. The venue, the flowers, the colors of the linens, etc...etc. This is great because I get to experience the true vibe of her wedding. This makes my job easier when it comes to helping her find bridesmaid dresses because she has painted a picture of her wedding for me.

Now as wonderful as organization is, it can sometimes make the bride's tasks become frustrating. Like many brides do before they come to Twirl, they spend a lot of time on-line and in magazines looking for their  "perfect" bridesmaid dresses. This usually leads them down one of two roads. *The first is they have found the "perfect dress" (on-line or in a magazine). The one they MUST have.

The trouble they sometimes run into is that there isn't a boutique in Arizona that carries a sample for her to see in person. The brides and her girls then spend lots of time trying on other dresses, but the bride just cant get the "perfect dress" out of her head. Nine times out of ten when the bride does finally find a way to get her hands on the "perfect dress", she ends up not even liking it in person. The fabric is not what she expected... or the color swatches looked different on-line... or it doesn't flatter her bridesmaids.  And because she didn't really pay attention the first time around with the bridesmaid dresses because all she knew was the one she thought she really wanted wasn't available, she is now back at square one. It is almost like a mini dream gets crushed... and when it comes her wedding, that is never good. *The second path of organization that can bring un-needed stress into a bride's life is when she finds a color she MUST have.

There are hundreds of color options when it comes to bridesmaid dresses, however, there are millions upon millions of colors and different shades of those colors in the world. When a bride comes into Twirl with a piece of fabric or a paint chip or a shoe and knows that come hell or high water this must be the color of her bridesmaid dresses, things can get a bit tricky. Not every color comes in every fabric. The bride will almost always find a fabric she loves and a card of color swatches that do match her must have color. She then has to decide if the dress is more important and should she slightly alter her shade of "teal"? Or is the must have color more important and should she go with a dress she likes less?

To some this may seem silly, but it happens all the time. The one piece of advice we can offer is never be 100% set on anything until you see it in person. Colors, dresses, fabrics, styles... they will always look different in person

: sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse (depending on who you ask). We hate to see brides upset or frustrated. Choosing bridesmaid dresses should be yet another fun part of the wedding planning. Especially because it involves your closest girl friends. So perhaps starting with an open mind can help bring the stress level down a knotch or two. :)  And as always, we are here to help in any way we can!

Happy Wedding Planning.

Tuesdays with Ty - Starting your Wedding Registry

Now that you have all of the big things done...chosen your bridal gown and picked out the cutest bridesmaid dresses from Twirl...now you get to make your wish list for wedding gifts!  This is the only time in your life that you can pick out gifts and friends will ask where they can buy them for you!  To make the most of it, I suggest asking your bridesmaids their advice!

Since we both have had our own houses, Brandon and I took an assessment of our top priorities for the registry.  We decided to be traditional and register for nice China and stemware because we do like to entertain and it will be useful in the future.   We also decided to find flatware that will be appropriate for everyday use and nice enough to use with our China.  I also wanted to select new everyday use dishes that will last through the years and not become dated after using them for a while.  So after thinking long and hard about what we wanted, we chose to register at the following places and why:

  • Macy's - Great selection of China, Flatware, Stemware, Towels, Cookware.  Always having a sale!  They also do fun "Sip and Scans" in the evenings where you can enjoy appetizers and drinks and socialize with other couples.  Macy's also offers rewards back to the couple on their Macy's card for everything purchased off your registry.
  • Bed Bath and Beyond - Great selection of the same China, Kitchen Gadgets and Bakeware.  They are always sending out 20% off coupons so that makes it nice and more affordable for guests as well!
  • Pottery Barn - I LOVE Pottery Barn - everyday dishes, glassware, serveware.  It was a must for me.  Classic style that will last for years.
  • Lowe's - This one was Brandon's request.  Do you know how many trips you make to Lowe's when you are working on a house project??

Tips from my bridesmaids:

  • Nancy: "Register not just for items for today but things you may want to use 5, 10 or 20 years down the road. I love my china and silver I registered for even though I don't have a dining room now to use it, I know I will one day!"
  • Deanna: "Just relax and have fun.....register for everything that you think that you might want, you can always take it back."
  • Katherine:  "Let your man take the scanning gun.  I apparently “stole” the gun from Les, and I still hear about it to this day!  You can always go online and make adjustments afterward, so let them have their fun!"
  • Hillary:  "Don’t hold back…this is the time to register for those things that you never buy for yourself!  And.. My mother always says every girl has to have at least one thing from Tiffany’s for a wedding gift!"
  • Jodi:  "When I registered for dinnerware, I registered for something that I could use current day.  Six years later, the set no longer matches the decor in my kitchen.  I wish I would have registered for china that I could have passed down to my daughter when she was married - something plain, classic, and something you only bring out for special occasions."

Happy Shopping!

- Ty
