Sweet Southern Charm

My mother was born in Alabama and raised in Mississippi, so my upbringing was completely southern. I thought this week I would show you what my ideal Southern wedding would consist of! - Kelly, Twirl Girl Intern

The Dress

When I was younger my mother gave me a Wedding Barbie Doll, I will never forget the dress this doll wore. It was a Swiss dot 3 layer dream - and turns out - that dream is a reality! Dress designer Jenny Yoo has a Swiss dot dress that reminds me of my childhood dream gown. The dress is from Jenny Yoo's latest collection and is called the Geogeanne. The great thing about this dress is that it is lightweight and airy, prefect for a hot Southern wedding!

The Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

For the bridesmaids, of course I had to choose Lula Kate - the epitome southern chic style! Not only does Lula Kate carry a blue seersucker fabric, but you also have the option to mix and match various skirt styles and necklines - perfect for a bridal party of all shapes and sizes! For the groomsmen I would go with button downs, khaki pants and the Vineyard Vines blue seersucker bowtie.

The Flowers

My absolute dream bouquet for a Southern themed wedding is a combination of hydrangeas and white peonies. Both flowers are well known in the south & have such a heavenly fragrance.

The Venue

I have always envisioned my wedding to take place outside, underneath two weeping willow trees, with hydrangea plants and magnolia trees surrounding the ceremony. In the South, there is nothing better than the evening air perfumed with the scent of magnolia trees. This would all take place at a plantation type venue with a main house for the bridal party to prepare in!

The Decorations

When I was a teenager, my grandmother gave me her floral china set. Back then, I didn’t realize what a treasure I was left. I would use this china set for my wedding party reception dinner, and for everyone else, the most classic dishes I could find. The table would be full serviced with low hydrangea flower arrangements so you could see the guest across from you. I would breakout my mother’s crystal for the serving dishes, 'cause crystal never goes out of style in the south.

I hope you enjoyed a glimpse of a Southern girls dream wedding until next time…
