A Year of Planning

A Wedding Planning Guide from our very own Twirl Girl Intern- Kelly!

12 Months

Congratulations you are officially one year away from marrying your soul mate! Now you need to make a plan for your big day. We suggest that you divide a to-do list month by month so that you remain organized and on time. The Twirl girls have created an outline for the next twelve months to make planning much easier for you!

11 Months

So you have had a month to enjoy the fact you are getting married, now it is time to get to work on the your bridal to-do list. In the eleventh month we suggest you do the following: brainstorm guest numbers, choose your venue and major vendors (such as your photographer), take engagement photos, and start your search for a wedding dress.
When deciding on a venue, you will need to determine if you would like your wedding to be indoors or out, in a church or other venue and where you want your reception to be. If you do decide to go with a different place for the reception, make sure that it is close to your ceremony site so that it is convenient for your guests.
Check out our “vendors we love” list to see some of the great vendors that we recommend! Also check out different photographers’ websites to determine which style of photography you like best.
It may seem a little strange to order your dress eleven months before the wedding, but you have to account for the amount of time it takes to get alterations! Dresses can take up to six months to come in after ordering, and you want to be sure that you have plenty of time to get the dress altered to perfection. Read our A Bridal Appointment at Twirl blog to see how to prepare for your first appointment with us.

10 Months

By the tenth month it is time to choose your bridal party. This includes your bridesmaids, groomsmen, ring bearers, flower girls, ushers, and guestbook attendants. You will also need to decide how you would like each of them to dress on the day of the wedding. Much like wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses also take several months to come in, and so you should plan on ordering them about ten months in advance

Also, consider creating a wedding website. The Knot is one of the easier sites to use, and is great for brainstorming ideas for the wedding. Making a website will also make it easy for guests to RSVP and see where you are registered.

9 Months

In the ninth month you will need to brainstorm your guest list with both sides of the family. Since your venue will likely have a maximum guest limit, be sure to keep the list within that range.
You get to have some fun this month! It’s time to register for gifts! Try to register at least three national retailers so out-of-town guests won’t have any problems.
You will need to send out the save the dates for your wedding. The save the date should include where any helpful information on your location and your website if you created one.
The last thing you should do this month is get the wedding bands ordered so if any resizing or engravement needs to be done you will have time to do so.

8 Months

On the eight month it’s time to start thinking about the honeymoon. Look at places and make sure you schedule time off from work for how ever long you are planning on being gone. This should be an exciting, fun thing that you and your fiancé get to plan and look forward to! Talk to local travel agents to see who has the lowest prices and best deals for you.

7 Months

During the seventh month, brides will often create a fitness plan to ensure that they stay in shape and look their best for their big day. If you look up fitness plans online you can find the plan that works best for you!

This month you need to research and purchase the wedding invitations, these take time to come in and will also need to be addressed and assembled.
You will need to look at florists and start floral arrangement orders for the wedding party and event.
Book transportation and all rentals that are needed for the event such as dance floor, chairs, table if they not included with the venue.
