Bridesmaid Dress of the Week

You are currently browsing the archive for the Bridesmaid Dress of the Week category.

Lynn Lugo 'Avery'

My favorite bridesmaid dress this week is Lynn Lugo’s ‘Avery’.  The dress is knee-length tulip skirt with a waistband and gathered chiffon halter top.  The classic silhouette is an updated version of the popular halter dresses of the 1950s.  It’s structured, yet soft with a mix of eastern shantung silk and chiffon that are both comfortable and pleasing to the eye.

The dress under the chiffon halter is strapless with a high stance so it will provide enough coverage and support for a larger bust or a more conservative person. I’d have to say that the best feature about this dress is really the designer herself: Lynn Lugo truly designs with every body type in mind. She offers different skirt types in 4 lengths that can be mixed and matched with most any top.  For a formal look, you could simply change the knee-length tulip skirt to a long staight skirt.  Or for even more of a 50s look, you could go with a pleated party skirt with pockets.  Each dress can be customized to what each girl looks best in :)

The dress comes in eastern shantung, dupioni, or crispy shantung slik.  There are many color options available as well. There’s also a ‘sister’ to this dress, it’s a one-shoulder style called ‘Tate’ which gives options for a bride wanting to go with different necklines on each of her girls.  This dress also exhibits a teal color that has been very popular for Peacock inspired weddings this year.

“FOR THE MODERN GLAMOUR GIRL”

Ardour by Chloe & Reese

My favorite dress this week is actually a line of bridesmaid dresses.  The designer Chloe & Reese has a bridesmaid line called Ardour and it is, in a word, fabulous!  It was specifically designed with the bride and/or or her bridal party in mind.  It’s fun and flirty; perfect for the bride who is looking for something unique for either her girls or herself.

The dress is short.  The bodice is form-fitting with several necklines available including: strapless, scoop neck, v-neck, and one shoulder.  The skirt starts at the natural waistline and is gathered to form a full party skirt that hits 2-3 inches above the knee.  Available in many colors, the fabric is a tightly woven silk faille that holds it’s shape very well and really makes the dress.

The best thing about this dress is the fact that it gives you so many options to accessorize, and what girl doesn’t like her accessories?  It looks great with some fun & funky shoes (flat or high heel) and/or a brightly printed clutch.  You could also pair it up with some custom jewelry, which could also be the gifts for bridesmaids; I would recommend a slightly chunky, colorful, 15-20 inch necklace.

The dress is very versatile, working for both modern and vintage weddings, and is basic enough to be worn again and again.  It is a distinct look that can work outside of a wedding as well.  For example, Vanessa Minnillo wore this dress to the Kentucky Derby this year.  Ardour has just come out with this dress in both short and long bridal gowns.  Whether the dress is for an engagement party, bridal shower/luncheon, or the bridesmaids, it is a dress that will capture everyone’s attention.

Jewelry provided by Sally F. Billings of sallyb.  Clutch provided by Elizabeth J. Sexton of b.jolley.  Both available at Twirl Lexington.

Chic in Silk

Jenny Yoo Mackenzie Dress

My favorite dress this week is Jenny Yoo “Mackenzie.”  It’s a long, strapless bridesmaid’s dress with a sweetheart neckline.  There is a charmeuse band below the bust which creates an empire waistline.  There is a released pleat from the empire waist that gives the dress a lot of movement.  It has a column skirt which goes pretty much straight down – did I mention that it has pockets too?!  Also, the dress comes with a detachable charmeuse rosette pin.

The fabric is eastern silk shantung which gives the dress a very rich look and feel and comes in 28 different colors.  The fact that it’s silk, a natural fiber, means that the dress is going to breathe and be very comfortable even on the hottest summer days.  The shape is very flattering; for example,  it will elongate a more petite woman’s body and will also work to accentuate the curves on a tall and willowy woman.

Another great point is that Jenny Yoo also offers this dress in their bridal collection. It is a stunning alternative bridal gown that comes in two shades of white.  This would be a perfect wedding dress for the beach or a garden wedding.

Plus Jenny Yoo currently has a promotion of 10% off all long dresses (bridal included) for the month of July.  It’s a wonderful dress and a great buy!  Jenny Yoo is available at Twirl Scottsdale and Twirl Lexington.

“Classic with a Fun & Flirty Side”

Alfred Sung D465

My favorite for this week is Alfred Sung D465.  It’s a new bridesmaid style for Fall 2010 and I’m absolutely in love with it!  The dress is perfect for just about everyone and your bridesmaids would most definitely wear it again.  It’s structured with a band just above the natural waistline so it will create a lovely hourglass figure.  Plus there’s a bow center-front on the waistband and a ruffle around the neckline so everyone can get in touch with their girly side while still being sophisticated.

The bodice works for any bust size: There’s plenty of dress there to hold in a larger cup size and the ruffles can be tacked to provide more coverage.  For women with a smaller chest (like me) the deep V and ruffles help to accentuate what they have.  Oh, and you can wear a regular bra instead of suffering through a strapless all day!  The skirt is what I like to call a modified pencil.  There’s slight pleating in the middle where is connects to the waistband which will camouflage anything one might be unhappy about with their hips and tummy.  Also, there’s a slit in the back of the skirt that will allow your girls to be able to walk and dance with ease :)

The dress comes in short or long, two fabrics: peau de soie or dupioni, and in many different colors so it will work for a wedding in any season.  It’s also very affordable coming in under $200.  We’ve only had it in for two days and everyone that has seen it loves it!

An oldie but a goodie. I just can’t fall out of love with this Amsale dress (style #G425C).

I am very much into the chiffon look right now. This dress is fabulous. As cute as it is as a halter, it is equally as cute if you tuck the little straps down and wear it as a strapless. This dress is flattering on all body types and very easy to wear. It can be dressed up or dressed down… which we all know I am a HUGE fan of.

One of my other FAVORITE things about Amsale is their “family member” options. They have so many dresses to choose from if you want each girl in a different dress, yet all the same color/fabric. Not to mention they have some fun, vibrant colors.

Check out Amsale at Twirl Chandler.

Happy Wedding Planning.

My dress pick of the week is Coren Moore’s style called the “Laurie”.

This is a newly released dress that is made of refined silk and feels light and feathery to the touch. It ‘s billowy and has a natural waistline that creates an hourglass shape. The bottom flows outward and for a little extra “cute-ness” you can add the fun black belt complete with sequins to cinch in the waist (shown in the picture below).

This creates a structured, yet cute and comfortable look! The best part is it even comes with hidden side pockets so you can sneak in your lip gloss! This dress can be seen in person @ our Chandler location. Come check it out.

Have a fabulous day. Much love,  Ashley

My dress pick this week is a dress by After Six (style #6583).

There is just something about this dress that draws me to it. I always get excited when someone tries it on. It looks great on a lot of different body-types and has some pretty fun colors.

You can see this dress @ the Chandler Twirl.

Happy Wedding Planning.

My dress pick this week is Lela Rose style #121.

As cute as I think this dress would be for a bridal party, I might love it even more for a rehearsal dinner or bridal shower dress. There are 11 fabulous colors this dress can come in (yes ivory is an option) – and there are 18 color options for the flower. You can get so creative with this dress… I just can’t get enough.

The fabric for this dress is faille. I don’t usually find faille to be too popular of a fabric… but it is absolutely perfect for this dress. It adds much desired structure and you can tell it is very well made.

This cocktail, strapless, empire dress (with pockets) can be seen at Twirl Chandler. It is so flirty and fun, you just have to see it in person.

Happy Wedding Planning.

My visiting dress pick this week is JLM BLUSH style # 1007. Now I admit that it might not look that fabulous in this picture, but in real life… LOVE IT.

This georgus dress is designed from silk shantung fabric (one of my favorites). It can be descirbed as a ”ball gown”, yet remains simple enough to not be too much. The small floral detail adds just enough style to the dress without being too over-powering. The appeal of the BLUSH line in general is to stear away from the more traditional gowns. This dress is yet another example of bridal alternative at it’s finest.  Throw in some side pockets and a small train… perfection.

This dress is visiting our Chandler Twirl for this weekend only. Come see it in person! And remember, 15% off all BLUSH orders placed this weekend. So not only is it stunning, but it can also be right within your budget.

Happy Wedding Planning.

Think romance, think elegance, think intricacy, and think unique beauty.  This week’s “Dress of the Week” seems to effortlessly embody all of these ideas.  This Blush by JLM bridal gown, Style 1006, is made of a soft ivory cotton lace over a champagne charmeuse lining.  It flows elegantly into a trumpet opening at the bottom with a chapel train.  The most unique characteristic of this gown is its amazingly romantic open back.  I can just picture the scene… soft lighting, an open dance floor, and this gown being worn by a new bride as she twirls around admired by all the onlookers.  Come visit our Twirl Chandler Boutique and see this fabulous dress in person!

Even better – the full BLUSH line will be @ Twirl Chandler for the Trunk Show May 7-9. Call to make your appointment now – 480.722.0000.

Hands down, this has to be one of my favorite dresses! I know I have said that before… but this time I really mean it. Now although this dress is not new, it is stunning none the less.

This beautiful, strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline is to die for. Jenny Yoo has truly out-done herself. It is the kind of neckline that will flatter everyone. The knotted detail at the bust adds just enough without being too much. The chiffon fabric makes the dress elegant without being too over the top. This dress is easily dressed up for a wedding, but can then be dressed down for a nice night on the town. The simple way the dress flows in layers toward the bottom is just beautiful. Not only is it fabulous to look at, it is equally as fun to wear (or so I have been told).

Now, what is even more amazing about this dress is that it is also available as a bridal alternative dress. Can you imagine this dress on a bride for a beach wedding? Perfection.

Now the fabrics are different between bridesmaid and bridal – but the eye catching style remains the same.

You just have to stop by our Scottsdale location to try it on. You won’t be disappointed. (Jenny Yoo – Mira)

Happy Wedding Planning!

So my pick this week is style # 5038 by Jim Hjelm. This stunning, luminescent chiffon, floor length gown is just too fabulous to not mention. It could be the color that draws me to it (emerald), but non the less, every time I see someone try it on, I fall in love again. I just can’t get enough.

It is a natural waist, which can sometimes be harder to wear, but I have seen many different body types try this dress on and I think it has looked great on them all. The double ruffle cascade and flower detail that runs down the left side it what sets this dress apart from the rest. It is eye catching, but not enough to draw attention away from the bride. Although I am a huge fan of the emerald color (shown above), I really think this dress would look great in many of the luminescent chiffon and basic chiffon colors.

You may just have to see it in person to agree. It’s @ our Scottsdale location waiting for you.  :)

Happy Wedding Planning.

My dress pick of the week is Alvina Valenta style 9046 in chiffon (sampled in black). This dress is from their Spring 2010 collection and is, hands down, one of my new favorites! The dress is romantic and flowie while also being flirty and fun. The halter neckline is flattering on all different body types and the flowers across the top add a sophisticated detail without being overwhelming. You can’t see in the picture, but the cute, criss cross straps in the back are the perfect addition showing off just enough skin.  :)

Another great addition to this dress is the belt option. The dress can be worn with the ruched, self clasp belt to highlight the waist giving the dress a more structured look. Or, for those wanting a “softer” look, they can choose to wear the dress without the belt which tends to create a more relaxed look. I think this is a great pick for your bridesmaids no matter the season or location of your wedding. With a dress this cute and versatile, I can’t imagine a bridesmaid not wanting to wear it again and again.  ;)

Simple Silhouettes Reed Dress

This “Reed” dress by Simple Silhouette is absolutely adorable! I love the sweetheart neckline and empire waist, which are definitely flattering on almost every figure! This dress is simple, yet versatile and can totally be worn for many occasions after the wedding.  It is a comfortable fabric and will look great in photos.  You really can’t go wrong with this dress for a wedding in any season! This dress is located at our Scottsdale store. :)

This week we decided to choose a classic, elegant dress that will never go out of style.  It is the Thread Tyler dress.  Dubbed the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dress, it has a folded boatneck, natural waist and comes in 4 different lengths and 4 different fabrics!  The mini length starts at $290.  It has been quite popular among Lexington brides…especially those going for a vintage, classy Audrey Hepburn look.
