Jennifer Thye is the owner and lead consultant of IMONI events, a wedding and event planning company right here in Scottsdale.

Jennifer wanted to share this blog with you all!

*Happy Wedding Planning*

Pocket This Style Idea!

A funny little trend has been creeping into many wedding and bridesmaid dresses lately: pockets! In AZ we have a lot of weddings that give off a more casual vibe, the heat, the outdoor venues, all of it leans a little more toward the casual, and a cute new trend is adding that laid-back touch into the dresses of 2010 weddings, and that’s all these super-cute pocketed dresses! Let’s take a look at this trend and how to wear it best!

Pocketed Wedding Dresses

This trend is not for every event. If you’re being married in a traditional ceremony in a vaulted cathedral, pockets on your wedding dress just aren’t quite the style you should be looking for. BUT if you’re being married in a relaxed style, these dresses will fit your event so perfectly. It’s also functional: lipstick, vows or toast note cards, rings, bobby pins– if you needed to, you have a place to stash this stuff!

Pocketed Bridesmaid Dresses

These dresses are just so freaking cute! These dresses are so perfect for warmer weather fun, and again these pockets are really functional for your girls! Bridesmaids usually DO need to carry some back-up bride makeup, toast note cards, hair pins, random objects that you, the bride, just don’t know what to do with, and if your girls all have pockets, you have portable walking storage! Also, just think of the pictures of you and all the girls leaned back, hands in pockets, enjoying the day!

While it’s not for every bride, this trend is super cute and a nice fun touch to modern weddings!

Nothing cuter than a little girl in one of these adorable dresses! She can stow away her flower petals and her hair bow later when she’s coming apart and dropping all her accessories on the dance floor.

Discover the charm, distinctiveness and affordability of a “one-of-a-kind” gem in the heart of North Scottsdale!

Three Picturesque Ceremony sites to choose from. Open, airy and contemporary reception room with over a dozen windows and 2 patios with panoramic views of the city lights!

Regale! is situated at the base of the McDowell Mountains at Market Street in DC Ranch, offering stunning views just minutes from the valley!

You have found your wedding venue…Regale!

Below are some shots that were taken at a recent open house. Different ideas for layout, tables, structure, etc.

There are some great photo-opts for you and your girls with the fabulous city line in the background (these pictures don’t do the venue justice). DC Ranch is such a great location. It’s the perfect venue to truly capture what we all love about Arizona.

If you want to check this place out for yourself (and trust me… you will) check out one of their open houses. Every Monday from 5-8pm. You can tour the facility including scenic ceremony sites and experience a truly unique venue!

Happy Wedding Planning.

Jamie and Emile were married on a beautiful late Kentucky spring day on May 29, 2010. Jamie lives in Los Angeles, but knew she wanted to come home to Lexington for her big day. Planning the wedding from across the country was a huge task to undertake, but with the help of Always Planned, the results were stunning! If you have not been to the Headley-Whitney Museum it is well worth a visit.

Jamie just shared these photos from her wedding with us by her photographer Harper Smith Photography yesterday and I knew I had to share them immediately! Jamie’s navy, green and accents of blue created a very classic, beautiful feel for the wedding. Her bridesmaids were outfitted in After Six Style 6553 in Blueberry Taffeta. This style suits many body types and is such a timeless dress!

Congratulations to Jamie and Emile! We wish you a lifetime of happiness!

My favorite bridesmaid dress this week is Lynn Lugo’s ‘Avery’. The dress is knee-length tulip skirt with a waistband and gathered chiffon halter top. The classic silhouette is an updated version of the popular halter dresses of the 1950s. It’s structured, yet soft with a mix of eastern shantung silk and chiffon that are both comfortable and pleasing to the eye.

The dress under the chiffon halter is strapless with a high stance so it will provide enough coverage and support for a larger bust or a more conservative person. I’d have to say that the best feature about this dress is really the designer herself: Lynn Lugo truly designs with every body type in mind. She offers different skirt types in 4 lengths that can be mixed and matched with most any top. For a formal look, you could simply change the knee-length tulip skirt to a long staight skirt. Or for even more of a 50s look, you could go with a pleated party skirt with pockets. Each dress can be customized to what each girl looks best in

The dress comes in eastern shantung, dupioni, or crispy shantung slik. There are many color options available as well. There’s also a ‘sister’ to this dress, it’s a one-shoulder style called ‘Tate’ which gives options for a bride wanting to go with different necklines on each of her girls. This dress also exhibits a teal color that has been very popular for Peacock inspired weddings this year.

Natasha and Morgan were married in a perfect outdoor setting in Morgan’s parent’s backyard in picturesque horse country in May. The bridesmaids wore Dessy Collection styles 2787 and 2799 in Blush. The effect was quite stunning! In fact, after seeing Carrie Underwood’s wedding pictures I think she stole some ideas from Natasha…blush bridesmaid dress, pink sash on the wedding gown, and pink kissing balls!

A special thanks to Alumbra Photography for sharing these beautiful pictures with us! Congratulations to Morgan and Natasha! We wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Twirl is hosting a contest to try and find the QUEEN of serial bridesmaids! Twirl Boutique was created with “serial bridesmaids” in mind. The owners in both Arizona and Kentucky have been bridesmaids themselves a combined 27 times. This is one of the reasons why Twirl was born. We wanted a fun place for maids to go to with tons of cute dress styles to choose from.

We are looking for women out there to tell us their personal stories and explain why they think they are the ultimate serial bridesmaid. More specifically what sets them apart, other than just being a bridesmaid so many times? Is it the money they have spent? The fabulous showers they have thrown? How great they are at putting out fires? Or perhaps the destinations they have traveled to? We are looking for honest, heartfelt and humorous stories.

My favorite dress this week is actually a line of bridesmaid dresses. The designer Chloe & Reese has a bridesmaid line called Ardour and it is, in a word, fabulous! It was specifically designed with the bride and/or or her bridal party in mind. It’s fun and flirty; perfect for the bride who is looking for something unique for either her girls or herself.

The dress is short. The bodice is form-fitting with several necklines available including: strapless, scoop neck, v-neck, and one shoulder. The skirt starts at the natural waistline and is gathered to form a full party skirt that hits 2-3 inches above the knee. Available in many colors, the fabric is a tightly woven silk faille that holds it’s shape very well and really makes the dress.

The best thing about this dress is the fact that it gives you so many options to accessorize, and what girl doesn’t like her accessories? It looks great with some fun & funky shoes (flat or high heel) and/or a brightly printed clutch. You could also pair it up with some custom jewelry, which could also be the gifts for bridesmaids; I would recommend a slightly chunky, colorful, 15-20 inch necklace.

The dress is very versatile, working for both modern and vintage weddings, and is basic enough to be worn again and again. It is a distinct look that can work outside of a wedding as well. For example, Vanessa Minnillo wore this dress to the Kentucky Derby this year. Ardour has just come out with this dress in both short and long bridal gowns. Whether the dress is for an engagement party, bridal shower/luncheon, or the bridesmaids, it is a dress that will capture everyone’s attention.

Jewelry provided by Sally F. Billings of sallyb. Clutch provided by Elizabeth J. Sexton of b.jolley. Both available at Twirl Lexington.

Click here to watch the video of the dresses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoDSfizIZ6A

Thank you notes are an absolute MUST to show your gratitude for the outpouring of love you experienced during your wedding. While e-mail, texting, website and Facebook posts are appropriate for some things…they most certainly do not replace the kind gesture of a hand written note and should not replace your wedding thank you cards.

Some people will tell you that you have a grace period of a year to write your thank yous after the wedding, but why leave it hanging over your head for that long?? Our goal was to have them done as quickly as possible after we returned home from our wedding. We are now 6 weeks post wedding and just have a few left to write for gifts we recently received.

As for the style of your thank you cards, that is personal preference. You can have cards printed before your wedding with your new name on them, but we opted to share a wedding photo on ours. Polka Dot Papers, who did our wedding invitations, offered to do a photo card for us. One of my bridesmaids had these made by Grey Ink a few years ago and I loved the card and still have it on my refrigerator! When we returned from our honeymoon I sent her a photo and she had the cards to us within a few days. In the mean time we made sure we had recorded all the gifts given to us so we did not leave anyone out.

Deanna's Thank You Card by Grey Ink

To make the card writing more fun, we cooked dinner a few evenings and made a date night out of it. Brandon wrote the cards to his friends and family and I did to mine. The wording does not have to be anything profound…just thank them for taking the time to come to the wedding (if they did) and how much their love and support means to you. If a monetary gift was given, you don’t have to mention the amount, just that you appreciate their generosity and how much it will help as newlyweds.

In the end, it is the act of taking the time to write the note that matters most.

Happy Writing!

-Ty
