Real Twirl Wedding

REAL TWIRL WEDDING || ELIZABETH + RYAN

Hi, Friends! Welcome to another highlight of a real Twirl wedding. We cannot wait for you to take a peak into this beautiful day, with an even more beautiful couple. Their ceremony was held at 21c hotel, with the reception following shortly after at The Apiary. This entire wedding was breathtaking, and we know you’ll feel the same as we do! A special thank you to the bride and groom for letting us show off their magical day! Xoxo

Can you give us a glimpse into you & your hubs's love story?

Ryan and I met in the summer of 2013. Long story short, he lived next-door to my boyfriend at the time (he was also dating someone). We would randomly hangout in a group setting and everything was platonic (even though I thought he was super handsome...hello Dierks Bentley/Paul Sparks doppelgänger). Fast forward six months...we had both parted ways from our significant others. We exchanged a few Facebook messages clearly setting the ground work for what would be a soon to be first date. I always kid with Ryan that he messaged me asking about some youtube video we had watched that summer so he could have a reason to chat with me. He doesn't deny this. Ryan ultimately asked me for drinks and I said how about dinner? (gotta keep it classy). He then gave me his phone number, which I then gave him mine and told him he can text me. Sure enough "hey, this is Ryan" came through to my phone seconds later, and the rest is history. Fast forward again to January 2017. Ryan and I had planned a casual evening in. I was going to cook dinner for us and we were just going to hang out. I took one of our dogs for a run and when I came back Ryan was being very strange...looking back on it I would say he was anxious. I then took our other dog for a short run and Ryan wanted me to hurry up so we could cook dinner. My parents were going to stay with us that weekend so I was making sure everything was in order when I got back from run #2. Ryan had other plans. All the lights were on in the kitchen, so I quickly went to turn them off (recessed lights + undercabinet lights= hello electric bill). Ryan had a record playing, which was our would-be wedding song we had always talked about. He asked if I wanted to dance to our wedding song and I quickly shot him down since I was trying to make the house spotless for my parents arrival (sorry Ryan!). Ryan then followed me across the kitchen as I was finishing turning the lights off and he hugged me. His heart was beating out of his chest. I could literally feel every beat. I asked him "why is your heart pounding?" He goes "because..." and drops to one knee. I'm pretty sure I blacked out and came to with lots of tears in my eyes. It was the most perfect proposal....just us and our dogs on a Friday night at home...I wouldn't have it any other way.

What was it about your dress that made you realize it was "the one?" Was it what you expected to love/wear? Favorite memory from dress shopping/Twirl?

OMG....the ladies of Twirl were amazing to work with. Ryan and I had set our date for a little more than 9 months from his proposal. So being the planner I am, we had to move quickly. I had scheduled appointments with different bridal boutiques in the area for the next coming weeks. Unbeknownst to me, Twirl would be the one and only place I would have to go to. Heidi Elnora was having a trunk show and I was immediately drawn to the first gown I saw in her collection. I tried on a few dresses from other designers and tried on Heidi's gown last. It. Was. The. One. I had some ideas of some things I wanted to tweak and the Twirl Girls quickly had Heidi on FaceTime (she is the sweetest southern lady, btw). I told her my ideas and she happily drew up a new sketch of the modified dress and I was sold. You can't get better service than that.

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

Celebrating with family and friends was amazing...so much love in the air and everyone was so happy. Honestly every part was amazing, but my favorite part was after the ceremony, Ryan and I had time alone away from everyone to just take it all in. Even though it was a short ride from 21c to the Apiary, it was great to spend it with him alone.

What has been the best thing about marriage so far?

As cliche as it sounds, getting to spend every day with your best friend and being able to learn and grow as one has been amazing. It definitely is a learning experience, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love Ryan more than he will ever know and I'm glad I get to spend forever with him.

Any pieces of wisdom or advice you'd like to share with future brides, engaged gals, or newlyweds like yourself?

Future brides: go with your gut feeling when it comes to planning your wedding. Don't settle for second best. This is your one magical day, so treat it as so. And enjoy your wedding day to the fullest. It literally goes by so quickly. I think after our wedding I told my mom "I feel like the day was only 15 minutes long".

Newlyweds: Have patience with your spouse. As I had mentioned, it is a learning and growing experience for you both. Oh, and don't go to bed angry :)

REAL TWIRL WEDDING || RUTH ANN & LOGAN

Welcome to another feature of real Twirl weddings, friends! We know you’ll be in love with this couple and their special day just as much as we are. With their ceremony venue being the beautiful Central Christian Church followed by a beautiful reception held at the Fasig-Tipton, this day was nothing short of breathtaking. Thank you to Ruth Ann and Logan for letting us highlight their big day! Enjoy! xoxo

Can you give us a glimpse into you & your hubs's love story?

My husband (Logan) and I were both very involved in an agricultural youth leadership organization (National FFA Organization) throughout high school and into college and that organization would eventually be how we met. Each year, that organization chooses 6 college freshmen/sophomores to represent them as keynote speakers and workshop facilitators and requires them to take a year off school. In 2014, I was representing Kentucky as the candidate for this position and Logan was representing South Carolina (where he is from) as their candidate. We first met at a practice interview in Texas and immediately hit it off! It's safe to say I was absolutely smitten! The beginning of our relationship was so pure and perfect (one of those too good to be true type of things) and we got to know each other over Skype calls as we practiced for the interviews coming up for the FFA positions. Eventually, I was chosen as one of the six positions which forced me to take a year off school and travel the country for the coming year. We were nervous to start our dating relationship as long distance, but we made it work! Logan would eventually transfer from Clemson to UK where we both graduated and entered teaching careers. As a senior at UK, just months before graduation, Logan took me for a date at McConnel Springs where my high school friend (and my favorite photographer-Lyndsey Boyd) was hiding in the bushes as Logan popped the question! The rest, as they say, is history!

What was it about your dress that made you realize it was "the one?" Was it what you expected to love/wear? Favorite memory from dress shopping/Twirl?

I knew my dress was "the one" when my Mom looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "this one is so you". The whole appointment was perfect. I had my best girls, my grandmother and my mother and the Twirl girl helping us was one of my sweet sorority sisters (Jillian). This appointment made me realize that I wanted our entire wedding to have this feeling. The feeling of "this is so Ruth Ann and Logan" and that's why we chose to use vendors we had a previous connection with. It was the best decision!

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

It's so hard to choose just one favorite memory, so I'll share my top 3!

1. Nothing was sweeter than pronouncing our written vows to each other in front of the people who mean the most to us. It was hard and vulnerable, but wow was it worth it. Our vows weren't just pleasant words for the ceremony- they truly are how we live. (The original handwritten vows are on our fridge haha!)

2. While I was getting ready with my bridesmaids, my mom walked in with a box for me to open in front of everyone (she strategically did this before make-up because there were tears!) and inside the box was a Bride's Bible with my married name and a stack of letters that each of my bridesmaids, my mother and my grandmother had written and prayed over. It was so special.

3. With every good wedding, there are hilarious unexpected things that happen! One of the groomsmen was heisting Logan into the air for a silly picture and his pants ripped right down the butt. Given, this was after the ceremony and before the reception!

What has been the best thing about marriage so far?

There have been so many great things about marriage, but my favorite thing is having this clean slate to live out a life together that God created for us. There have been tough decisions and really hard days at work, but coming home to this incredible man that can soothe my worries and make me feel so secure in those tough times is the best feeling. It's said a lot, but doing life with your best friend is so fun.

Any pieces of wisdom or advice you'd like to share with future brides, engaged gals, or newlyweds like yourself?

Advice to future brides- Take time to enjoy the engagement before you start to plan. We were engaged for 5 months and spent the first week just giddy and did zero planing. It was amazing.

Advice to engaged gals- Use people who care about you. Every vendor we used was someone we had a connection with prior to even meeting each other. From sorority sisters, to high school friends, to the horse farm my Mom worked at in college... it all was part of our story and it created a day full of love!

Advice to newlyweds- Seek advice. Man, we do not have everything figured out, but I like to think the community of people around us can help with that. Logan and I both still call on our family for help with big and small life decisions when we feel like we are in uncharted territory. Community is huge.

REAL TWIRL WEDDING || SARAH + CHRIS

Hi again, friends! It’s time to take a look into another real Twirl wedding! This month Sarah and Chris’s wedding is being highlighted for you all to see, and you don’t want to miss it! Their wedding was the perfect June day with the most beautiful floral arrangements. I know you’ll fall in love with their special day just as much as we did! Xoxo

Can you give us a glimpse into you & your hubs's love story?

Chris and I met at Penn State where we both went to college. We started dating around graduation of our senior year (terrible timing). At that point, I had already accepted a teaching job in northern Virginia and Chris had been accepted to medical school at Penn State Hershey. We decided to give it a go and ended up spending the first four years of our relationship in different states! We spent practically every weekend traveling back and forth to visit each other. In June 2015, we moved to Louisville for Chris' job. He proposed that same Thanksgiving at my parent's house back in Pennsylvania. We got married this past June and have been together now for over 6 years. We currently own a house in Louisville and live there with our rescue pup, Hailey.

What was it about your dress that made you realize it was "the one?" Was it what you expected to love/wear? Favorite memory from dress shopping/Twirl? (You can answer one, two, or all three of these. Totally up to you!)

Once we got engaged (or let's be honest, before then) I started looking at dresses online. I came across the Tara Keely dress and feel in love with it online. I loved the lace, the sleeves and the pockets. I tried on wedding dresses a couple of months after we got engaged and found some I really liked, but couldn't get that dress out of my mind. I knew I couldn't find my dress until I tried on that dress. Twirl was actually the only place that carried that specific designer. A year before the wedding, my mom, sister and grandma came down for dress shopping. We went to Twirl on our second day of shopping. I feel in love with the pink house, the decor, and everything about Twirl. Haley, who helped us, was amazing and so thoughtful. We saved my dress for last and as soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one. I loved all the details and the fact that it wasn't as common. Everyone agreed that this dress was their favorite. I actually didn't say yes until the next day. I went to one more place, but nothing compared to that dress. I am so happy I went with my gut and found that one dress.

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

There are so many! Chris and I didn't do a first look so seeing him as I was coming down the aisle was my favorite. I wasn't nervous until that moment. It's honestly true that in that moment you forget about all the other people. Another favorite memory was the ceremony. My cousin's husband, Christopher, married us.  When I was in 5th grade, I was a junior bridesmaid in their wedding. He also wore the tie that my late grandfather wore to their wedding. It's a tie that symbolizes him and was been worn to all of the cousin's wedding. To have him there in spirit, meant so much to me. It was also wonderful to have so many of our family and friends travel to Louisville. Most of our guests had to travel and to be able to have everyone in one city for one weekend was an amazing feeling. Our band, Kudmani, was amazing and had everyone on the dance floor, which made the night that much more fun!

What has been the best thing about marriage so far?

It is amazing getting to say that Chris is my husband. We now get to make joint decisions about things like house projects and travel. I also love knowing that I get to spend everyday with him.

Any pieces of wisdom or advice you'd like to share with future brides, engaged gals, or newlyweds like yourself?

Have fun and enjoy all of these moments. It's so easy to get caught up in the stress of planning a wedding that you forget to enjoy being engaged. Having a long engagement helped me feel like stressed. Chris and I also make sure to make time for each other. He works a lot of house so the time we get to spend together means a lot.
